Default A few questions on subs & amps and stereos

Ok so I have the 2005 chevy cobalt lt (sedan) with the pioneer stereo system that comes in some cobalts. I have a few questions..

Where is the stock amp located?

Approx. how much is the stock sub + amp worth used (but not much)? Just curious because I've gotten way higher offers than I think its worth since I want to sell

I plan on buying 2 new subwoofers, im guessing 12in kickers, but if they are in stock would you consider 12in alpines better or equal to kickers?

last question..

I was told sony overrates their amps as in what they can handle and kickers underrate, is this valid information?

oh sorry one more question, I want to get a new stereo head unit since mine doesnt have a ipod jack and the fm transmitter sucks sometimes to use, where would a cheap place be to buy them? (like would it be smarter to buy online? (from where) or from a store like best buy?)

stock sub and amp is usually located in the wheel well area on the cobalt. I have no idea what it would sell for depends on how badly ppl want it lol. I would personally opt for the alpines I have installed about 6 different brands in cobalts and alpines sounded the cleanest to me so far. Sony does indeed over rate their amps since they rate the max not the real output or rms output like alpine or jbl or rockford does. Kicker does not really under rate theirs so much as just give you the rms output. Get the fm transmitter from wal mart or best buy unless you want to overpay for one.

I have a fm transmitter but I really don't like the static I'm getting in the city and I've used many different ones that my friends have bought and they are all the same so I think im just gonna get a new stereo unit, does walmart sell them and do installation? is installation even that hard? (im pretty bad at wiring stuff together and don't really trust myself), or should I just go with best buy installation?

My friend got a pair of 12in alpines with the box included and an amp (don't remember what kind of amp), and had it installed all for a total of $750, is this a high low or decent price for what they got?

What are the dimensions I should be looking for in a car stereo? I have found this one:

Walmart.com: XoVision, 3.5" Wide Touch Screen DVD Receiver, XO1936: Auto Electronics

Not sure if it'll fit, how can I find out if it will fit, and or work in my 2005 cobalt?

dash kit gives you a single din so go by din size, its either single, 1.5 or dbl din. Here is a list of what you need from metra buts schoshe makes it as well;
Scoshe dash kit; GM1587B
Scoshe antenna adapter; MDA1B
Scoshe wiring adapter; GM13SR
that should give you all you need to wire and install the new deck.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Im new here. Just bought my 2005 Cobalt LS yesterday and i LOVE it. Its 5 speed which i enjoy alot seeing as all my previous vehicles have been automatic. Now on the the question.

I have searched for a couple hours but not really found what i am looking for. I seen that on pre-06 model Cobalts the door chimes arent in the door speaker, theyre in the the gauge cluster. I really dont want the pay $100+ for an adapter to keep my chimes, which i dont know if itd matter if my chimes are from the cluster and not the doors.

So which wiring harness could i use besides the expensive one.

I have a Sony Xplod CDX-GT630UI stereo.

Thanks for the help everyone!!
