Default Need help with Stock radio

I have been wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo, but everyone i talk to says that i have to have a special $150 wiring harness, i have a stock base model chevy cobalt 2005 2.2L, I have also been told that i dont need the spendy wiring harness and just get a basic one, Is there anyone that can clarify or link me a site that i might be able to find info on which harness i need? i hear the higher models like the SS and ltz models that have the navigation feature need the spendy harnesses, but i dont feel like spending 150 bucks plus another 2-300 for my stereo lol. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt
