Interior LEDS

I recently just put a 3 volt blue led behind my cruise control switch and I'm doing the door handles and hvac controls next.. my question is can I get away with using the rest of the 3 volt LEDs that I have or should I go out and buy 12 volt LEDs that it says online

That's what people said about the LEDs behind the hvac and in the door panels.. but for some reason on the How-To for the cruise control LED change it said to use a 3.6 volt LED

hmm, link to the how to? is it on this site havent seen it in awhile i would need to look at it
