Default 05 cobalt ls front speakers

hey guys, i am installing (trying to) my front speakers in my 05 cobalt and i was following the 'how to' thread i found here but i seem to have run into a bit of a problem, the speakers on my car seem to be a bit different, mine look like this

and this is the gap/space thats left

and this are the speakers im trying to put

im wondering if there's an adapter i cant put so that it'll fit?
at this point im just tempted to start drilling.
thanks in advance

The new speakers should have came with plastic rings that you put in before the speakers. Autozone and I think BestBuy sell them as accessories. Would'nt hurt anything if you drilled, I'd put some dynamat or foam behind the speaker mount if you went that route

well i bought 6.5 and they seem like they'll fit. i went to best buy but they had to be order online and the guy told me they're sold individual so it would've been like 20+dls and i got them @walmart for 13dls, plus shipping will take less time.
