Default Engine Cover

Okay so I am very new to working on cars and everything and I want to upgrade my cobalt ls.

First of all I have looked at my pictures of peoples engines and they have taken off the gay looking plastic cover.

What is it needed for in the first place?

How easy is it to take off? I'm sure it's just a few clips and bolts right?

It's there to protect the engine from dirt. I leave mine on, but to take it off you just have to take the oil dipstick out. I'd recommend leaving it on unless you put a part on the car that prevents the cover from fitting properly.

The cover also has its downsides.
It traps heat and cause the engine temp to be little high if in a hot day.
Just take it off. It doesn't serve much of a purpose at all.

Hood holds in heat dummy, lol. I think the engine cover makes the bay look cleaner, unless your boosted. You have to take the Oil cap off, then pull up on it to get it off

The engine cover does hold in heat, but not enough to worry about. It also there to keep the engine noise down.

So if i were to put a CAI on, I wouldn't need to remove the engine cover correct?

no you need to replace the stock intake plumbing, the engine cover could stay on if you wanted it to.

Shouldn't have to come off, my Lt with an AEM cai would have fit with the cover on. Most take it off though for easier access to everything.
