Default exhaust????????????

Okay guys. I am just getting into tuners and need some help. I just got my 09 cobalt ss and would like and exhaust, but have found most of the cat backs are in the 600-700 range. I have found a few mufflers that I would like to try on it that would all be much cheaper. Most are under 100. I looked and it looks like the cobalt already has stainless piping so how well would just replacing the muffle for a much higher flow work, or should I just save up for the full 3" catback?

The 09 ss/tc already has a ~2.8 OD exhaust with good bends, the resonator and muffler are both straight thru designs, you wanna improve the performance or sound? get a downpipe with a highflow cat or no cat.

I just looked at another post on here and I'm going to go with the new down pipe. Wow is that thing restrictive!!!!! I am looking for both sound and performance, looks wouldnt hurt either but not high on the list for me. Thanks for the reply.

Like I said, the stock exhaust is all you're gonna need for anything really, till you swap turbos or dislike the sound with a different downpipe.

Yes, the less back pressure you have the better the turbo breathes. Side note on that, it has been told to me that adding a switchable cutout will make the exhaust more turbulent so you can actually lose 20-50HP when it is open. Supposedly this has happened on 5 different cars on the dyno. I havent seen sheets for this but it does stand to reason.

I wouldn't run switchable anyways. I would get in way too much trouble. I live in base housing and in a military town and the cops around here such and are on the look out for tuners.
