Default Turbo Timer Install

First off I just wanna get it across that I did use the search feature and found nothing telling me how to install or where to find out how to install the Greddy Full Auto Turbo Timer.

Anyway back to the point of the thread, I purchased a Greddy Turbo Timer today, picked it up on Ebay for 45 bucks brand new in the box (Y), seller had great feedback so I thought "Hell it protects the turbo so lets roll" haha

Anyway it comes with directions, but they aren't car specific (which I didn't expect them to be) so if anyone knows of a diagram or anything for a Cobalt SS or if anyone here has this installed in their car it would be much appreciated if you could inform me on how to go through the process.

Thanks in advance.

Im guessing you got a SS T/C ?

only thing a timer is good for is when your boosting like a banshee and get to your place without letting the engine cool down... but in normal day driving you dont need a timer... just keep your foot out of boost for 2 blocks or so...

Yeah an 09 Summit White one

and I know they aren't really needed, ecspecially with the stock turbo, but I plan on doing a turbo swap come spring time and i'm just gonna try to get ahead of the game a little bit and I figured some other people might want to also.

Most turbo's are water cooled. meaning you don't need a turbo timer. a turbo timer was introduced when turbo's use to be cooled by just oil. oil obviously would stay very very hot and needed time to cool down. now however is different.

learn something new everyday, glad I saw this post, one more piece of knowledge I can share with others like me who might have been mis-informed or just not done enough research into it lol.

All the turbo'd i'v used we're all oil cooled..... because i change my oil regularly

straight from Garrett:

Oil & Water Plumbing

The intake and exhaust plumbing often receives the focus leaving the oil and water plumbing neglected.

Garrett ball bearing turbochargers require less oil than journal bearing turbos. Therefore an oil inlet restrictor is recommended if you have oil pressure over about 60 psig. The oil outlet should be plumbed to the oil pan above the oil level (for wet sump systems). Since the oil drain is gravity fed, it is important that the oil outlet points downward, and that the drain tube does not become horizontal or go “uphill” at any point.

Following a hot shutdown of a turbocharger, heat soak begins. This means that the heat in the head, exhaust manifold, and turbine housing finds it way to the turbo’s center housing, raising its temperature. These extreme temperatures in the center housing can result in oil coking.

To minimize the effects of heat soak-back, water-cooled center housings were introduced. These use coolant from the engine to act as a heat sink after engine shutdown, preventing the oil from coking. The water lines utilize a thermal siphon effect to reduce the peak heat soak-back temperature after key-off. The layout of the pipes should minimize peaks and troughs with the (cool) water inlet on the low side. To help this along, it is advantageous to tilt the turbocharger about 25° about the axis of shaft rotation.

Many Garrett turbos are water-cooled for enhanced durability.
