Default 2007 cobalt LS , HELP!

Ok so for the past few days my shifter is stuck in park and will only go into gear when it wants to. When u push on the break and push the shifter button , I hear it click like it wants to move but it won't. Sometimes I'll wiggle it and it will go into gear but once it goes back to park it sticks again. What can this be? I hear the clicking when pushing on the shifter but that's all that happens. Pls help anything will be appreciated !!!

Check the cables under the back seat cup holders.
POP the cup holders out and see if the cables are tight, if not tighten them.
Dunno if it will work but its worth a try.

The shift cable is located under the console, and it runs through the firewall. If it's broken, it needs to be replaced. I don't remember if it's adjustable or not, if it's just loose.
