I have a 2010 Chevy Cobalt 2.2. It as been charging up to 15 volts, high enough to GAS a battery. This past week, while going down a STEEP, WINDING, DIRT, COLORADO road I lost the Power Steering. This has happened in the past. Dealers in CANYON, and Colorado Springs tell me that I have to drive it in to be Analyzed. Usually it will clear in 10 minutes.

I have the Codes from a Black Box, and a Reader.

I believe the car to be unsafe. I am a little reluctant to climb under the thing. Now I am a little more Pro Active. Have scraped the paint of the ground points on the struts, put in Star Washers, and electrical paste. The Cold Cranking Current has gone from 150 to 350 CCA. Battery will now start at 14.8 Volts and drop to 12.8. It seems normal, but I have an appointment to have it on a rack to check ALL the points.

The Steering. Does any one have experience with this. It can fail at any time. I am asking about Liability. Has there been any Recalls. Dealers say NO, the Web says yes; However anything can be put on the internet.

There have been several problems that I personally have been able to find. Will DOG this one out, but personal ideas and tricks help.

The Highway Safety tells me "wait until some one dies, and then call us." ______ _____!!!

No more being Nice Guy.

Thank you for any ideas of info.

Uncle Dave

Hello UncleDave,

Sorry to hear this. I'm sure you're aware that recalls are VIN specific. If you would like for me to research this issue further regarding the power steering recall, I would be glad to do so.

If so, please private message me your VIN, current mileage, phone number and your dealership's name so I can check.

I look forward to your reply.

When I Drive into the Dealership I have the car with me, and they can check the # for them selves. Twice.

I used to work for a TV station.

Kid next door age of 12 use to go up to the corner, and wash cars. He now has the largest Dealership in New England. I now live in Colorado.

When driving US 24 into Colorado Springs there is a pretty good hill. Wife has a bad time on this hill. Take another Route? Not even the local TV stations know how to get from Colorado Springs to Woodland Park via Canyon. There is the Phantom Canyon, Shelf Road, and Rt 11/9 on this side of Pikes Peak. I personally like the Sky Line Drive.

Thank you for your help. Think the next time I will take a friend, who is just looking for something to do. Just watch, and take notes.

I had some work done on my 2010 colbalt lt. New loaded struts and a steering shaft assembly. Now while driving it seems louder in the car. Sounds the same from outside. But while driving its like I can hear the road more. Did the shop not replace some kind of plastic shield or something? It's like I can hear the road more through the dashboard.
