I want that chrome shifter neck :O. Right beneath my knob is a leather ball sack from the base of the knob. Can I replace it to that chrome cone? If so then where? I searched around...

try searching " cobalt automatic shifter" on ebay, or something similar to that!

both of my knobs, the leather and the plastic one came with the chrome ring

Note for those of you ding this as part of a replacement shift unit (like I just did yesterday). Don't bother with this until you have the old one out. The car doesn't HAVE to be started. It just has to be in drive. Once the old unit is out, simply slide it to drive & remove as per these instructions, then reinstall on the new unit once it's in. It IS easier to put on the new unit while in drive, so remember your parking brake.

For those with the leather boot under their automatic shifter knob. I had to pop the leather out of the bottom housing and pull it up over the bottom of the shift knob exposing the black plastic ring underneath. I had to use a pair of plyers (gently) to turn the plastic ring to pop it loose. then it all went smoothly.
