I've searched a million times, finally createdecided am account to get a definite answer.

Long story short, a relative has a 2007 cobalt, timing chain jumped/broke. I'm going to swap another motor in.

I found another 07 motor that a buddy has, but I sent him pictures of the current one and he told me mine has the California emissions because the injectors are different, isn't the California emissions only the air check valve that's on the exhaust manifold? I just want to make sure I get the right motor the first time.20170118_130955.jpg 20170118_130943.jpg 20170118_130935.jpg

and I can only use another 2007 right? Without having to swap the ecu and all that too? Also if I find a motor I was thinking about replacing get the timing chain and tensioners before putting it back in, is there a trick to lining up the timing marks right?

I've always been a v8 guy when it comes to engine work so this is new to me.

Thanks for any help, I'll include some pictures.

Here's the answer to the timing mark question, the differently colored mark goes on the intake sprocket:

As for the motor, you should be able to use any 2007-2008 2.2 out of another Cobalt, HHR, G5, Solstice, Sky. I am unaware of injector differences, but if the original ones are good I see no reason not to reuse them, everything should line up the same.
