Just wanted to put this out there. Some costumers brought in a 04 Saturn Ion with a 5-speed manual, complaining that the transmission or clutch was going bad. Had to push the pedal all the way to the floor, to switch gears. So I test drove and in fact there seemed to be a serious problem with the transmission. Well 30 minutes later, I found the real problem, the clutch pedal had worn out the plastic parts that push the master cylinder. I went to local salvage to get another one, and they were all bad. Tried to grab one from a cobalt, different. So I RIGGED it. Yep, melted a nut into the plastic pedal, and told them to order a new one from dealer. So if you own a manual transmission ION, look closely at your clutch pedal, push the pedal down, it should move the rod instantly. If it moves a half an inch before the rod moves, your pedal is bad. In this case it was starting to bust all the way thru. Just a heads up!!! The ION had 190k, still running strong.

Ouch. I'll never understand why 2 out of 3 pedals are metal, then they cheaped out on the clutch.
