I've been wanting to make my 09 2.2 5 sp a Flexible Fuel for a while now, but the $600 for HPtuners has been stopping me. I was browsing some junk yard site and found I could get a new ECU for $36 dollars out of a 09 HHR which is Flex fuel and only 50 miles from home. The 09 Cobalts have the FFV maps in them, but it simply isn't enabled.

Will simply changing the ECU's work?

Will it matter that the HHR and Cobalt has different fuel injectors?

Does it matter if the ECU comes from a 5sp or auto tranny car?

Pretty sure the ECU swap won't work, they're different part numbers. At the very least the "new" ECU will need a flash of your vin, which will require a Tech2 visit. It will then more than likely reject because the VIN isn't in the correct range that the ECU is expecting. Probably won't pair with the BCM either.

HPT is really your best option unless you feel like trading your Cobalt for an HHR.
