Help with electrical problem?

My daughter has a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. Sometimes when she's driving, the gauges go nuts, the speedometer goes out, the dashboard just does weird things. And sometimes the car won't start at all. When she turns the key, the lights come on, the radio works, but the engine does nothing. No solenoid click, nothing at all. A new starter motor didn't help.

All of this is random. Sometimes it starts fine, sometimes it doesn't.

My mechanic has no idea what to do next, and has given up on this car.

I had a series of faults ( airbag maintenance required , tc indicater on , transmission shifter issues po170 , etc.) this is on a 2006 colbalt LS . Found a gang ground post attached to the front left side of engine block below the ecm harnesses going to the ecm. Repaired wire terminal ends going to the post. All the intermittant problems that have been there for years are gone.
