I have an 07 cobalt that the number 4 cylinder will not fire. After new plug, and different coil, I discovered only 50 PSI compression in that cylinder. I have removed intake, exhaust and am ready to remove the head to see if it is a bad valve or bad head gasket but I can't figure out how to loosen the timing chain to get the two cam sprockets off and be able to lift the head off.
Please help...Mooseman

Timing chain tensioner is on the back of the motor. 1-1/4" bolt.

Thanks a million

Thank you very much. It sure was simple once I spotted that huge 1 1/4 hex on the back of the engine. One thing though...I was hocked to find out how much the head gasket set and the head bolts were. I found a burnt exhaust valve and it is more fot the gaskets and head bolts than to have a complete valve job done. Bummer.

A valve is like 20$ I think. X 4 x 4 x 4 yeah it gets expensive.

If you have the side cover off make sure all the timing marks line up when it goes back together.
