looking to upgrade my 07 shocks/struts to ss/sc or ss/tc shock/strut

Does anyone know if its necessary to upgrade the springs on an fe1 suspension system at the same time as upgrading the shocks and struts? I'm looking to firm up the ride without dropping the ride height. Let me know what you think.
