I have a 2005 cobalt, automatic. I can take it out of park, without the key in the ignition, and without pushing the button on the shifter. This really isnt a problem for me, but i just dont want a kid messing around and bump it into neutral or something. Is there an easy fix to this?

From what I have read there is some clip in the shifter that if you remove it you can do this.

But I am not certain. I don't have an automatic to go look at to help you either.

So potential idea + bump for you.

maybe my "clip" is broke? because I can take it out of park without the button, or key

you most likely need a shifter......the microswitch that tells the car when its in par it actuated by a rod that goes through the shifter, this rod bends and falls out.

Just the shifter that is inside the car? Would that be easy to replace?
