i have a 2008 cobalt and when i go over bumps or drive on gravel roads it rattles like crazy. I have read online that it may be the steering column. I also found a service report 04-03-08-006D basically detailing this problem and stating that it may in fact be the steering column needing replaced. it has 54000 miles on it and i was curious since there is a service bulletin would GM still be required to replace it no charge. thanks

Mine is doing the same thing. Does your rattle seem to be speed sensitive?

if it sounds like its coming from the steering wheel and causes your steering wheel to shake somewhat, its your steering column.

if its small rattles here and there than its more than likely the shitty cheap plastics that make up 90% of our interior.

if it sounds like its coming from the outside of the car it could be your control arm bushings, swaybar endlinks, blown struts etc.

there was a Recall on the power steering motor for cobalts which does get replaced free. Now just because there is a TSB does not mean it will be free. a recall and a TSB are two different things. at 54k miles you are outside your 3 year/30,000mi bumper to bumper warranty.

I am having some sort of rattling. I hear coming from the steering column. Depending on what speed I am going at. My car is due for an alignment but I don't think that the problem. I had to replace the sway arm and bushing once. I have to check to see if the parts are still under warranty.
