Cobalt LT brake rotor problems

I see a lot of buzz on SS rotor problems, but less on LT. Has anyonre received any real help from Chevy or a dealer to remedy this problem?

I can't get the $(^&$^&% rotors to slide off after mechanical cleaning and WD40. Can anyone tell me how to remove them?

The rotors and pads LOOK good, so they must be warped. JUNK. This wheel shake should not happen and after the hassle I had getting GM to fix control arm bushings, I'm about ready to buy another brand after 30 years of buying new GMvehicles.

I have steering wheel shake under moderate-hard braking in my LT. It's right at 35,000 miles. Had a feeling that it was due to warped rotors. Is this a common issue with Cobalts? Debating on going to the a brake shop and having them check out my rotors. If they're warped then i'm going to the dealer with the estimate and having them fix it. Got 1000 miles till my warranty is up. Might as well take advantage of it before it's gone.

I've got gmpp rotors and they've been working fine for 3 years now. I haven't heard that many people complain on the rotors honestly.

depends on how people drive . you drive hard on you brakes and heat them up and shit you can warp them . steering wheel shake under brakeing is the first sign of a warp rotor . but i have seen when people didnt know ther had bad wear on their tires and it will do the same thing .or even a belt brake in the tire . i had to do a pair of rotors in my wifes cobalt and the came off easy . there is a little pin you pull if i remember right ( i did rotors in my truck and her car that day ) . i havent heard of many rotor problems . i have more drum problems with my shit . both our cobalts 50% of the time squeek when we let off the brake . ( just hate the sound ) and lastnight i was going down the highway looked in my mirror and saw my brakelights were on so i pulled up on the brake and it went off . only happens when i lightly tap the brake ( like slowing down ). if i give it harder brake and let off .the lights dont stay on ( like stopping at a red light ) and i would put money on my stupid drum . i hate drums why didnt they just to 4 disc on all cobalts .

On GM vehicles,they are required to used so much recycled steel. Since it rusts so quickly on body parts,they now use recycled steel on replaceable parts. On the rotors,they get a ridge on the outside causing vibration and noise, making you think the brakes are shot. Remedy? Can't remember brand,but one of the leading brake companies makes replacement rotors which are painted so they don't rust so quickly. Make sure you ask for the painted replacement ones. I did this in my 2004 Impala and it fixed the problem. I am getting a little vibration in the Cobalt now and will probably have to do it in time.

They should just come off with some persuasion. Try a rubber hammer or regular hammer with a block of wood. They should and will sit firm on the axle. Don't be bashful loosening these up.

As for rotors, no dealer will you help you out here. They are wear items and sometimes will wear unevenly. Fortunately they're also pretty cheap and can be replaced easily and for not much. You can also have them machined to take out any warpage but make sure you get a good shop. They can come back worse than when they went in.

Hit them hard in between the studs, if that doesnt work heat it up a little you'll hear a popping sound thats the rusty rotor breaking free from the hub. Hit it hard with a regular hammer though it'll work better.

On my second set.

My front rotors seemed to have warped within days of installing them. No, I didn't overtorque my wheels , I don't ride them hard at all, and the calipers aren't dragging. WTF!

Depends on how you drive. I do a lot of stop-and-go driving so my pads will get me 20,000 miles. I've always changed rotors when I change pads. If you start cutting the rotors it makes the shaking worse.

If you are having pulsation under braking, then you have warped rotors. Either get new rotors, or have then turned. (Cut a new flush surface)
