I bought a 2006 Chevy Cobalt a month ago and i have a question about it. My car starts kinda rough at times where it cranks and cranks and finally it will start. Or itll keep cranking and when i release the key, it will have a coughing start. other times it will start perfectly fine. it starts differently every time. what could be the cause of this?

I have a similar feat.

The engine will run rough and if I try to move forwards or backwards the engine will cough and nearly stall. (Sometimes it will if I let too far off the clutch even if I hit the gas pedal). After a few seconds I hear a strange noise come from the engine which I believe is something to do with the valve timing. I know other people with this so it may just be the engine warming up from cold starts.

are you running a check engine light at all? i have the same issue, but it's just a tps... which on our cars, you'll need to buy a whole new throttle body. they're not expensive or hard to put in at all though

The check engine light was on for a knock sensor, but i have had it repaired. hasnt come on since. still has started up weird though. but runs fine once it has started up.

Sounds very similar to a problem I had. Is you fuel mileage affected at all? If so, Replace MAF sensor.

I found out what my problem was; it's the fans. I noticed that during this scenario the headlights flicker. This is because the electrical system is drawing a lot of power to spin the cooling fans.

is your temp sensor out? because same thing happened with my car last week because my car didn't know how hot it was so it was in a fail safe mode...
