I recently bought a 2008 Cobalt LT 5-speed coupe. I was looking to lower and turbo the car and just make it look damn sexy. I was looking for suggestions on where to start and maybe even some recommended parts to use

i dont know a damn thing about turbo

as far as lowering, depending on your budget there are a couple ways to go. If cash is no option go for coilovers. If youre looking for something cheaper you can get the FE5 shocks/ struts for an '10 SS/TC and lowering springs of your choice along with a couple other items and youre on youre way.

I guess they are my friend that suggested those said that they fit right over the stock struts and they're Eibachso they have to be pretty good. I was hesitant about getting coilovers because the ones that I found were also like $1000 and that seemed kinda high too me.

sell your car and buy an SS/TC. going to be a lot cheaper and easier for you. if you turbo your car, you'll probably blow it up and spend another 4 grand to rebuild the engine like i am right now.

Statements like this always frustrate me... And here's why...

A quick search on virtually any site such as Autotrader, CarMax, etc will turn up similar results... Selling a non turbo, or charged Cobalt with a reasonable amount of miles on it, is going to get you between $5k and $8k (depending on year, mileage, options, etc).

On that same search, if you're lucky enough to even find a turbo'd Cobalt, you'll notice the price is AT LEAST $10k higher than the price of the regular Cobalts. $10k can pay for a lot of mods.

On top of that, none of us, short of the owner of the Cobalt in question, KNOW what his/her plans are for the Cobalt. If he/she wants a 10 second car, they're going to be dropping a ton of money into whatever it is they're driving... If they're just wanting to make what they already have a little more fun to drive, look good / better etc, then there's not a thing in the world wrong with working with what you have.

I can appreciate the advice given as a heads up to what happened when you turbo'd your Cobalt, but like I mentioned earlier, the statement "sell your car and get _____" has always frustrated me, and imo, is usually NOT good advice.

i never turbo'd my balt, if i did, i'm sure more things would've blown up lol. supercharged w/ 13 pounds of boost on stock internals was no bueno. give me 6 pounds of boost from a turbo and it would've done the same thing. people who just come into a thread and say "hey i just bought my cobalt, i wanna turbo it" obviously don't understand the way these cars work and their limits. it's easier and cheaper in the long run to buy a more expensive car because if you're like me and spend an extra 200+ a month on performance mods, you could've just spent that 200+ on the car loan for the TC... think about it. i'm over 10k in parts for my car i'm sure, i could've paid my car off but i bought performance parts instead. i'm completely alright with it but i could've bought and paid off a TC with the money i've spent
