hey new here on this forum...

I have a 07 2.2 Cobalt & there are 3 variations to this engine:
1. with air check valve
2. w/o AIR check valve; exhaust manifold is drilled & tapped for AIR check valve
3. w/o AIR check valve; exhaust manifold is not drilled & tapped for AIR check valve

How do i find out which engine i have?
someone told me take off engine cover & look behind engine but i have no idea what im looking for

secondary air injection. you will have 2 tubes coming out of your intake. the one that hooks to the valve cover and another to a black box on the left side of your engine. if you don't have the one on the side of your engine, then you don't have SAI

so this is one
so the other would be coming out of the actual airbox that the air filter goes in, right in front of the strut, correct?

That circled tube is the pcv tube.

Check under your trunk mat for a build sticker and look for one of the following 3 letter combos:

LAP 2.2 VVT
L61 2.2
LE5 2.4 VVT
LAF 2.2

Judging by the lack of can sensors I'd go with L61, but you've got an older looking valve cover with individual coil packs so maybe LAF. Unsure.

Btw you can taker that oil cap extender off if you're not putting the engine cover back, just twist it like the oil cap.

umm there is no LAF 2.2 for cobalts... it was LAP and l61. he has an l61.

SAI.jpg

that is SAI, if you don't have it, then you don't have SAI

correct bankdude, i do have an L61, thanks for the pic
& I don't have that SAI from ur pic
but im still unclear as to which option is on my engine from my original post:

1. with air check valve
2. w/o AIR check valve; exhaust manifold is drilled & tapped for AIR check valve
3. w/o AIR check valve; exhaust manifold is not drilled & tapped for AIR check valve

& my new noob question is ...air check valve = SAI?

thanks for the help so far

yes, and you don't have it. the option is irrelevant anyhow. doesn't add or subtract power. it's just an emissions thing. if you don't have it, which you don't, you don't have to worry about buying certain mods/some replacement parts though.

ok let me explain my reason for asking & why its relevant

I posted the question because, i have a runnning & driving 07 Cobalt LS i was using for parts ...the engine & tranny works 100% fine & i dont need it, i had them up for sale on C-list & a guy with an 05 Cobalt asked me if it would work in his ...according to the Hollander Interchange the short answer is no ... but i figure if i give him the engine wire harness & ECU with the motor, i dont see why it wouldnt work in an 05.

my question about the 3 diff SAI options was so i can tell him whether he needs to buy the intake setup along with the motor

I sold him the engine Sat. ...so if he needs intake, i guess he will be calling me for it, i still have the tranny 4/S

do not give him the ecu and the harness. if he already has a cobalt and needed the SAI, he would simply hook it up to the new engine. your ecu will not be compatible with his no matter what unless he gives gm money to reprogram it. if you gave him the engine, it's simply a direct swap. the components on the outside of his old engine would just need to put on the new one.

thanks for the info
I already gave him the wire harness & ecu, i had no use for it anyway

i just wasnt sure because the hollander interchange says only 05-06, 07-08, 09-10 engines are compatible but i know sometimes they are wrong & u just have to swap out a few parts

thanks again for the info man
