Hi guys, Im a 2006 coblat LT owner and i wanted to learn to work on my own car. I have no car mechanic experience but i have a cousin that told me if i mess anything up he could help me out. I want to first increase the speed of my car and also there is this shaking that occurs between 50-60 MPH that i was told may be my control arm i think and my windshield wipers dont work.
I just want to learn to be an independent mechanic and know my way around the basics of a car. Thanks

Welcome! Check your fuses for the windshield wipers. The speed wobble thing is probably an unbalanced tire. Top speed in the other hand you really shouldn't mess with, acceleration is way more fun than screaming down the road at 130.

I did check my fuses but ill check again to be sure. I had my tires balanced twice since this has been happening so i dont think its that.
So what should i do to increase acceleration?

Your control arm bearings might need replaced.

Any number of things, really depends on your budget. A supercharger off the SS model is a popular addition at a reasonable price, typically doable in your garage for under a grand.

ive never seen a car that used control arm bearings ?bushings yea. Check what shop offers free alignment check and go and ask their guy to take a look at the car .Heck give the mechanic 20 bucks he's gonna look over ur suspension like its his mothers car.once u know what is needed redone u can look for best deals on parts

yup fist of all you'd want to check your front end suspension, ball joint, wheel bearings, condition of your tires , rims, if u find somthing loose this will need to be replaced there is not alot to the suspension on a cobalt which is a basic mcpherson strut , just one ball joint, wheel bearing and tie rods, so if you say you have gotten all your wheels balanced already and the concern is still present then we kno its not a tire issue, its a suspension issue

I have never read about a supercharger build that cost less than a grand...many builds I have seen were between $1500 and $2000.

Its usually a grand. Get the right kit and its 700$ to your door step. Then the rest is small things.
