New member, Love my coby! shes done me well, bought it in 2009 at 58k second hand from a used car place, found out it was through a rental company. done the regular oil changes, fuel filters, fuel pumps, air filters, cabin filters, froze up on a trip, towed it, 3 fuel pumps later, to find out the ground wire near the 6x9s was loose. Thank goodness, pretty penny later! 140k now. im no car expert, just a bass head and i self install stereo not car parts! I would like to do cold air intake one day, muffler another through a dealership!

new battery last year. when i got the wiring harness, deck and wired it myself.

thinking a rad flush, trans flush are in order soon ???

debating on what high output alternator to put in for some extra bass. i'm running 2x 4 ohm 250w pyramids in a sealed box and giving it 200w at 4 ohm, and having bad light dimming. i had same problem with my old 600w rockford fosgate amp till i blew a mosfet. but my new xs-2200gtx i picked up dirt cheap for the 10s works great! the 12" dvc 400w went into closet to make room for grocery space! and after find out that it is sitting in the incorrect sized sealed box. my sub requires a .8 cubic ft sealed, and its sitting in a 1.7 cu ft box. and i was running it on a rodek 250w at 2ohm slightly under powered the 12. Anyways. high output, big 3, 0 gauge, 200a fuse, battery negative 0 gauge, and a highout put battery, then ill be ready to move up from 500w to 1500w. Any suggestions from those with experience?

what about converting to LED, upgrading interior, turn signals, headlights, brake lights, cyclops lights all to LED. was it hard or is it easier to do yourself with the right resisters?

vibrates, wobbles when hitting bumps.
rotors were done 2012 with front breaks
wheel alignment 2013
sway bar links starting to crack but good for another year (according to oil place) he said those i should notice.
GM wants 800 to replace my universal steering knuckle. anyone have this issue? other than that runs great on highway, straight as an arrow, comparable to my moms 2013 cruze ltz minus the new stiff suspension feel LOL! my father in law told me few bolts and i can rip it out of a car at the pick apart with a box full of tools. and after doing that i can put it in myself and save the $800! anyone else have this problem? Im electrical wire friendly and savy, but when it comes to brakes, steering suspension, motor, i stay clear!!

was reading a few of them. One kind of matches. But I check myself wiggling the tire. One is starting go. Rod link end. The 1 foot bar with bushing on the passenger side is starting to make its own noise. Just started about 2 months ago. Can definitely feel it highway driving. probably have to get that done before I do the steering column knuckle that I'm finding the front end vibration noise.

To help get extra amps I was thinking of upgrading to led. Making the charging system more efficient in a way. Anyone have any easy bolt on kits that work good and dot approved?

If your looking for alternator upgrades I would highly recommend singer alternators. I have them on 2 separate vehicles(my 06 cobalt Lt and my girlfriends 01 eclipse) and love them.

Battery wise I would go with the crescendo logic battery(its looking to be the best bang for your buck battery out there currently).

Obviously the big 3 will be needed if you upgrade your alt.

Wire wise I run strictly 2/0 welding cable. It's a little more expensive in cars like my grand Prix(200 feet total for all 5 batteries, the big 3, and dual runs front to back) but for the cobalt it should be a ton cheaper. Maybe 50 feet at the complete maximum and that's even prolly to much for 1500(overkill is good tho).

I'm thinking the same. I'm practically bottle necking My charging system to fully push 400w rms. Might be a while to get money do big 3..

I got leaky transmission and took in got coolant lines replace d. Then a transmission flush. And a radiator flush.

Then got my suspension links replaced.. now my car vibrates at 100km/hr. Now I need tire rotation and wheel alignment for sure. But if my steering knuckle has a quarter inch of play. Need to tighten up my steering some how ....
My ignition system and spark plugs are also due in less than 10,000km.

Nobody touched based on making the charging system more efficient with leds. To provide a few extra amps to my speakers...

Edit.
Many Google research later finding out that others have issues with the steering shaft.
Has anyone had theirs go?

winterbaltz;160603]not the steering shaft, but i did power steering recall lol[/QUOTE]

I did the suspension sway links. They were dirty cheap. But now my car turns more the left. And still vibrates.

Check Engine light came on after I went through a massive 2 foot puddle. Code p0420. Dried out engine compartment and still came on.

Something with the catalytic converter. Going to dealer ship today get it looked at. Engine before suspension I suppose.

Asked gm for a quote in the intermediate steering shaft. As they sell for 90 on eBay. And gm initially wanted 850 to replace my entire steering column. So they want test drive before giving me a quote.

I've just put another 1000 in maintaining. Still need 2k to finish!

Got steel rims for winter. 16" alloys for summer.

Debating on width profile to use. 45 would give me better handling. 50 is just as expensive. 55 is common and cheap. 205/50r16 nitto neo gen racing tire. Or maxxis z4s. Or Eagle sports.
Buddy said I could put a 225 without rubbing. But that sounds less fuel efficient. What you guys think?

Fix engine light, new steering shaft, new summer rubber then an alignment.
point in alignment if steering shaft has play....?

hmmm i guess if the new swaybar links snugged it up, then you could easily notice an alignment issue more than before. that's how one of my trucks is lol sucks that it still vibrates though.

on the tires, i believe 225 is stock width on some cobalts. i stepped up from 195 width to 225 width when i got my new rims. a bit less efficient, but worth it imo for the comfort, quietness, and handling lol!

Sweet.

So I ended up finding a sweet deal and picked up a sweet of chrome 6 spoke 16" rims. Fit great. Came with 205/55 and car handles like a cruze. Minus the steering column and intermediate steering shaft with some play. Gm quoted 950. Going to sell my old rubber buy some good rubber after these burned off.

Stereo is finally complete. With sealed sub.got a Hitch bike rack. For my mountain bike. To replace trunk rack . Save the paint! Love my coby. Thinking this stereo might be strain on my alternator. But it's cheaper too replace with used or new stock. This amp/sub combo I have shakes my chest. Any louder I'll need ear plugs just to be in the car.

Edit. Forgot to mention my car is 145k km using high mileage oil now . Transmission fluid and coolant fluid was recently changed. Car heats up to 107 celcius. I swapped cooling fan 1 and cooling fan 2 fuse and relay. I thought fan kicks in sooner. Turning on ac always turns fan on. So at stop lights I'm running ac for 5 seconds to kick fan on. Is there a coolant sensor gone? Which enables fan when cooling gets to hot

fyi for the "big 3" the main upgrade you are going to get is the battery ground. the batt power and engine ground dont do all that much for our cars and i highly doubt you will notice a difference on 1500w rms
