Wipers going nuts!

My gf has an 06 Cobalt coupe with the 2.2l engine. One day the wiper linkage broke on the driver side. I bought a replacement. Installed same (I thought anyway) way I took out. The wiper motor only rotates one way. I was under the impression that it should rotate back and forth. I put in another motor from the local pull-a-part and it does the same thing. I have ordered a wiper switch. All fuses and relays are good. Seems like motor turns at correct speed in relation to switch position. Just doesn't reverse. Haven't really worked on any Chevy cars since the early nineties. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't say that I've messed with the wipers. Hope someone else here can help.

Take the wipers arms off, bump the lever and wait for the motor to turn and stop, put the wiper arms back on. I'm thinking you have the arms out of alignment.

Tried...did not work. Wipers swipe one time and driver wiper goes off windshield. Wipers cease to move. I replaced the switch and issue still exists. Checked bcm and fuses were good. Unplugged and reseated connectors on bcm. I have tried everything I know to do to remedy the situation. Still no swipe back towards the passenger side.

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes? It's a shot in the dark.

Replace the whole wiper unit. It is broken somewhere. The wiper should not leave the window if it's starts at the bottom. The BCM and fuses and relays don't control the geometry of the swipe. The wiper unit is broken. Should be able to get a used one cheap. $20 to $50. Pretty easy to change. Remove cowl cover, and some 10mm bolts.

He replaced the motor with one from a used car in his first post.

I got that part. That's why I said replace the whole wiper assembly as a unit. The unit is broken, there's no other explanation if the wiper leaves the window area, and the arms are on correctly. Simple geometry. One of the studs that hold the arms is pivoting, allowing the arm to travel to far.

Bought new wiper motor. Took everything out. Reinstalled. Timed and wiping again. Don't know why or how...but everything is as it should be!
