Hello! I have a dead animal somewhere in my Cobalt that i need help locating. The smell comes out of the vents the strongest and around the cd player. I have treated it with multiple odor killers through the vents and now it does not smell when the cold air comes from the vents, but does when I run my heater. I have already take out the blower motor and cleaned it, as well as replaced all air filters. Dead magots were flying out of my vents after about 2 weeks of smell. I have the ac/heater control console out and it also has a faint smell there. No smell under the car or the hood. Any suggestions on where I may need to look to get this out and kill the smell? Or suggestions on how to kill the smell without finding it. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Need to sell this car asap, but must get the smell out first.

sounds like something crawled into your hvac box
Thank you for your reply! Is there anyway to clean the HVAC system to remove the lingering smell.... as I do not know how to remove the dash to get to the HVAC box.

yeah you'll have to do some google research to take a part the dash to service the hvac. i was looking thru the chilton book i've got for the cobalt's and it does give some instructions how to remove it but not much on the dash just the unit once the dash is removed. some good research would be needed. yeah sounds like something cuddled up to the heater core since it only does it when the heat is on.

i did find a few videos how to remove the dash or such but they are kinda rough so here's the autozone guide
