I'm located in Michigan. My daughters 2009 Cobalt LS with a 2.2l ecotec has 185k miles and needs the engine replaced. It sounds like it has a rod knock. So I'm looking for a used engine at the local junk yards. I'm seeing online 3 different options for engines and not sure if all 3 would fit or not. they list...
  • 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - 2.2L (VIN H, 8th digit, opt LAP), Federal emissions (opt NT7)
  • 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - 2.2L (VIN H, 8th digit, opt LAP), California emissions, opt NU1
  • 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - 2.2L (VIN H, 8th digit, opt LAP), California emissions, opt NU6
Am I able to use any of these 3 to fit in her cobalt? I dont understand why there is 2 different Cali emissions options or could this be a typo?

Thanks to any of you that can help.

Look at the RPO codes on the vehicle needing the engine and see which codes match.
Then you will know which engine will work.
