try wet sanding. then clean it with paint thinner that's the only way you'll be able to tell. try 600, go to 800, then 1500, 2000 if you want. asfter being cleaned it should look like flat aluminum

i think if you wet sand the metal to 1500 you can get a nice flat aluminum color. if you clear it, it will do the same thing as polishing and you will lose the matte black finish on the inside it will turn to gloss. also if you clear it with too rough of a grit it will just show the sanding...

you just have to drop the struts and the swing arm just drops down and leaves lots of room. i never had to do this. just remove the driver rear wheel and you can shimmy it out. btw old thread is old
