17 inch tire sizes!!???? Help

hey guys sup Ya i have a set of 17Inch rims on my Balt (Aftermarket) and ive been running 225/50 R17 these tires are great!! but now its time to change them i can get a good deal on a set of 225/55 R17 ???!! but.......... i dont think the 55 profile would fit my car?? cuz i do kno that when i went up the the 50 profile they were rubbing just a bit on my wheel well but then went away after a bit?? HAS ANY ONE EVER RAN THIS SIZE OF TIRE 225/55 R17 ON THERE COBALT BEFORE AND WILL THEY FIT WITHOUT RUBBING??? oh and one more question does any one kno the factory TIRE SIZE for the 2007 SS cobalts which came with the 17 inch Rims?? with the 2.4L engine ?? cuz if those ran 55 s then i kno id be good?? ANYONE ?? :popcorn:

205/50R17 is the stock size for the stock cobalt ss. thats what i gonna keep for my tire size

The first number, 255, stands for how wide the tire is in mm. The second number, 55, is how tall the tire is as a percentage of the width, so 55% of 255 is 140.25mm. As for the R17, well that is the size of the rim.

I had to step down my tires on the rear from 215 to 205 because they were rubbing on one side.... but I don't drive a cobalt so that bit of info doesn't help you much. :hahano:

Why would you go even bigger. 50 is big enough for 17's. Stock ss which is what I have is 50

when i used to have 17s i had 215 50 17 and i thought they were big
