I just repossessed my 2010 cobalt from my step-son and his girlfriend. I guess they got mad at me and decided to rip the interior rear view mirror off. When they pulled it off it detached from one of the captive balls rather than from the button glued to the windshield. Now I'm trying to reattach the captive ball into the cylinder (I took the mirror and the base off of the windshield and brought them into the house). any ideas or help to get it back together?

Wow. Douche move on their part.

Your best bet is going to be to set it on a bench and apply steady pressure I would think. You could also try a mallet, you do risk breaking the mirror though.

Apply some heat to the base to soften up the plastic then push the ball thru with force. Just enough to allow flexing.
