I have a 2006 manual 5 speed cobalt NON supercharged, i need to buy another engine for it i was told that you can only interchange engines within 05-06, 07-09, 2010- present. My question is do i really need to buy a 05 or 06 engine to drop in? or can will it be just as easy to drop a 09 in? if so what parts do i need to make everything work?

    [wrong info removed]

Why do you need a new motor? Could rebuild your current one.

So your saying the supercharged 2.0 and the normal 2.2 can interchange with no mods? im not really interested in the supercharged engine cause its just a work car.but if i can find one cheep i would consider it. I want just to engine swap instead of fixing my old engine.A tooth on one of the sprokets broke causing it to jump a tooth and now its out of time. valves are probably bent and much more.

Oops, sorry I misread. You can only use an 05-06 L61 2.2 motor.

In 07 they added SAI, and after that changed to a VVT head in 08+.

Unless yours is the 2.4 LE5 motor, then you need that one.

It won't. You need a new ecu, extra sensors, there's other stuff too.
