engine tempature

Hey I got a 08 cobalt lt2. My engine runs at 195-199. when I stop at like a stop light the engine temperature will sit at like 210. This also happens when I park. My roommate told me that that wasn't good and that he thought the thermostat wasn't opening properly. So we replaced the thermostat and still is doing it. I want to know if anyone has any ideas. Or if this is or is not normal. The thermostat that was in it and the one I put in is a 180 degree thermostat.

Your car is fine, you now have a spare thermostat. If it hits 240-250 something is wrong. 300+ your motor will die soon.

^ this, your room mate just cost you an unneeded thermostat. those temps are normal. Though it would be a good idea to do a coolant flush depending on how many miles you have.
