I've a 2010 LT Cobalt and live in Portland, OR area. I had to change the oil every 3000 3x in a row to eliminate sludge...it worked. If I recall my dealer said to switch to 5000 mi intervals after I completed the 3 3000's. Does 5000 sound adequate? If I stretched the 1st one to 6000 would that be okay? That would put the next interval's mileage at 110,000 vs. 109,000. Much easier to keep track on the multiple of 5. Thank you. Update: Called dealer & they said every 3k miles. Does that sound best or would 4 or 5k be better? Thanks.
3k is excessive unless you are using junk oil or are combating a problem like sludge. 5-6k mi is fine.
Thank you YelloEye, you just saved me a ton of money and time. That makes sense. Is Chevron Motor Oil good? Also, if I don't get to 5 or 6k in one year (but perhaps a year and a half) is that okay?...or should I change it at least once a year?
I stick with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, but I've got an SS and take her to track days. My only experience with Chevron motor oil is when I used it to flush out my oil galleys because it's cheap, so I can't really comment on the quality.
Thank you. Do you think it's safe to wait more than a year to change oil if I don't quite get to 5k miles in one year?
