05 cobalt base 2.2 transmission replacement

I need help I have a 2005 cobalt base manual 2.2 the trans just went out do I need to drop the motor and tranny or can I just pull the trans

The easiest way to do that is to drop the whole subframe with the motor and all. You can separate them in the engine bay without doing that but it's cramped and a lot of work.
