Looking to update my cobalt. I have a 2.2l (not sure if LAP or L61) and need advice about rebuilding or replacing it. It has 176k with no major issues at the moment, I just was to make sure it lasts another 100k or so. This is my one and only car so I can't have it offline too long. I also don't want to jump to a 2.0. Really don't have any experience with engines, so anything is helpful.

Easy way to tell which 2.2 you have is if it has the VVT solenoids next to the cyl 1 spark plug coil. LAP has those, L61 doesn't. 2006-2008 was an L61 IIRC.

As for things to check into. You might be looking at a timing chain and guides replacement soon. Other than that, you might be best off taking the car into a Chevrolet dealership for a multipoint inspection. Likely you'll need to replace a lot of rubber bushings, possibly shocks.
