Deciding which model to go for

Hey sorry if I posted in the wrong subforum, brand new to the site.
I'm looking to buy a cobalt that may be used as a daily and as a potential project car. Really I just am here to ask you guys what year/model I should be looking for. I would prefer to avoid buying an engine that comes charged as I would like to start off with a larger one.

Edit: If you could even point out what trannys or engines to avoid, that would help greatly

Depending on year there are 5 engines and 2 transmissions with 3 different gear sets.

All are good. 05-06 2.2 has 1 method of tuning and it's hard to get ahold of the company.
