did you check to see if there is a rebuild kit available for yours? you may be able to get away with changing the pulley size on the alternator. I do suggest talking to newfeidan on here. send him a pm or wait for him to respond. He is the stereo system expert on here.

Mechman alternators. Do a search on google or youtube. He takes your factory alternator and amps it up a lot with new and bigger internals. He can make anything you need

Last h/o alt I owned was a mechman...well still have it but I got it sold on the 8th of April. Also he doesn't rebuild old altar...his stuff is made from scratch...he doesn't sell alternators for the 2.2 ecotec. He was the first person I talked to =\

Changing the pulley size won't do much...also rebuilding it really won't do that much neither...I know a good bit about car audio and am just trying to figure out if there is a after market alt for these cars...the setup I had in my grand am was beast and I wanna do something similar to it...but need more power output. I'll talk to him though...ty :)

just use a seperate battery for ur system or get a capacitor

I will never own a capacitor and adding an additional battery without upgrading the alt will only put unneeded stress on the current charging system thus lowering the lifespan of the current alt. Plus it won't fully fix the dimming issue. Ty for the reply though!

He reuses the casing I know, internals are all new. It shows him reusing the casings in all of his youtube videos. I emailed him, he said he has no problems building an alternator for anything, including cobalts. Don't know where u got your info from.

Unfortunately, that unit cannot be made to work on an ecotec, we don’t even offer a unit for ecotec.

The AD237 unit you have on your Grand am will fit various GM midsize vehicles with v6 engines 1999-2004
