Hi all i just registered as new owner of 2010 cobalt that i resently purchased from the insurance auction thru my buddy who is a licensed rebuilder in the state of Illinois .We have not seen the car in person till yesterday at it was offered for sale in NY and im in Chicago so the drive was not worth my time and i decided to gamble .The vehicle was sold as non running and it has a bad battery .So yesterday i finally got it delivered and in my quick 1 hour inspection with one of my co-workers we discovered that water level inside the car was about 1 foot it it damaged BCM and some connectors on the harness are ruined by the salt .It appears that the car has been profesionally cleaned before the auction as there is no odor

The good think is engine spins freely and has good clean oil with no moisture ,starter bit the dust for sure

I work in a semi shop as a full time mechanic and have 5 years of auto mechanic experience so ill be fixing it im my spare time after work.I got access to all tools and scan equipment we and the neighbor shop has

Yesterday i was able to find brand new BCM with the same part number on ebay for 20 shipped so i snached it
My idea is to remove the complete interior and the dashboard ,replace the padding under the carpet and the harness inside the car to prevent future wiring issues .will replace all ecu/control units that got wet as well.

i was able to steal this beauty for 2k + shipping a great deal for 2010 car with less than 30k on the dash

My question is :
there is connector in the truck by the batery that looks like a fuse holder -it has 2 red thicker wires on it. what was that supose to be ? can someone check u believe it was a fuse holder but....please advice

Good buy. I don know what exactly you talking about. Take a pic of it. Also with new harness and computer (300$ total) you have a brand.new car lol.

I'll check after work if I remember, lots of stuff under my carpet though.

It's a very large 50a Fuse, the picture I found says it's for the BCM:

Thank you i found the fuse in the trunk and replaced the fuse holder as well .Im super busy at work but i manage to work on it after i finish my shifts around 6-7 pm .For the 6 hours total i spend on the car i removed all the interior out + dash + all the wire harness in the dash and inside the car .Ive desided to replace all wiring inside to prevent future issues and got all parts on order .parts for the car are super cheap but them harness was about 700 bucks and thats thru the shops wholesale account

FYI: you should replace the Evap canister too.. once salt water gets inside of it, the sensor is no good.. salt water and evap sensor = evap codes.. also check the transmission fluids too..
