stupid VSS

ok so i dont get this. i got a brand new engine and it wont idle....on top of that the computer threw a code sayin the VSS. my friend whos doin my engine (since im half way across the world and cant fix it) double checked the MAF sensor and the VSS and is swearin up and down everything is good and he following the manual word for word. i believe him cause ive seen some of the cars he's done and they ran amazing. i ordered a new VSS sensor in hopes that this would fix the CEL and by some miracle the idle, anyone have prior experience wit this?

the idle huh...might be a vacuum leak somewhere...as for the VSS...it could be the sensor that went bad...but i doubt that will fix the idle. if anything have your friend do a compression check and make sure that there is actual compression. hopefully the timing is not off and the valves arent bent.
