lowering help

so my cobalt sits up pretty high. between the wheel and the fender in the back is 3-4 inches and in the front like 2-3 inches. don't get me wrong, the slanted toward the front look is cool on muscle cars, i don't like it so much on mine.

i'd like to drop it a couple inches as cheap as i can. now i know i can get new smaller springs but i want a DIY way that will save me the most money.
there's about 3 soft bushings on the top of the springs in the back, i don't know if i would call them spacers. have any of you removed these?

anyway tips would help

go with springs... cheapest/safest way to go
i,d suggest you Canuck Motorsports springs
you can have them for around 200$ shipped right @ your door

If u wanna go cheap, jack ur car up, take out the springs, cut them, then put them back in. seriously my friend did this on his 240sx and it looks amazing. oh yea and btw it cost him nothing

yeah i was thinking about that (cutting them) but the springs wrap around in a circle at the top and bottom to give you a complete circle so they fit right and if i cut them then they'll just be uneven and i would think they wouldn't be straight. do you get what i mean?

I have a set of b&g springs that I wanna sell. They're lower than sportlines. And ride better than cut springs.

saggy in the rear. if you like the raked look higher in the back it's not what you want, but once you see it you'll probably love it anyway.

They ride too low for me. Theyre about 2" all around, maybe more. I didnt measure.

but thats for the SS tho, add another nch or so for the LS suspension

i have a set of sportlines that i replaced with coilovers ill sell you if you want them

Actually for an LS or LT it would be about 2.5"

hey, Dman, how much do you want for your sportlines? i might be interested if the price is cheap enuf.

take each spring out 1 at a time, set yourself up a jig and put your spring in the vice. Apply ample amounts of heat via oxy/acetalyne torch.

As you heat the spring turn the vice in to compress the spring. then let it cool for 3 minutes, and drop it into a bucket of water. This keeps the spring from returning to its original shap.

In the end you have a lowerd car. no money spend on springs, and you didnt even have to cut them.

I'll let the guys that do this kinda stuff chime in, but for the general populace that's not a viable or safe option.
