power windows...

I have a 06 LS sedan and im thinking about putting power windows in the front driver and passenger windows... i noticed there is no "how-to" wrote up on this... i've made the doors up front power locks... but i've never installed a window motor before...is this hard to do? the local electrical shop here wants like 550 to do it and im quite sure there's a less costly way of doing this... i know i'll need to replace part of my door panels so i can control both windows from the driver side (2 switches) and another switch for the passenger side... any help would be appreciated...

Yeah find a cobalt in a scrap yard and pull the door skins, switches, wiring, motors and tracks and then insatll in your car. You will need to check the connector on your door to body , the molex connector, see if it has all the wires on the inside one at the body if it does then its plug and play from that connector to your door if not then you need to run wires through that door to power the switches and install relays for it since they can draw over 30 amps for some motors. Fords all have the same wiring inside the body so the difference between the car with all the power options and the one with is just wiring outside the main body and a few relays under the dash, I have done the power windows and locks setup on several vehicles aftermarket and anytime you can get the factory wiring it makes the job a lot easier. Short of that your into universal kits and those plus labour can be very costly.

just get one of those universal kits off ebay, they work pretty could, thats what i had done in my 1st cobalt.

no problem...the worst part is the shop will use these same 80$ kit's then charge the hell out of you, i use to work at a place that installed them...really easy, maybe a 2hour job at most.

I got all the wiring and stuff I needed for my last swap for 80 bucks but mind you that was an older cavalier. Universal kits from my experience usually needed a little more work but maybe they have improved since then.

yea there pretty simple, they come with many sprockets to fit the oem crank, then its just a matter of mounting the motor assembly in such away so your door panel fits on right...then mount the switch and your done...

i bought the same kit 6 months ago and the plastic piece that goes on ur manual actuator breaks and the aluminum rods they give u to install the motors bend, and the switches r universal so they look tacky but the wiring is good. so what i did is bought oem switches and oem actuators w/ the motors for about $300 and used there wiring kit and it works perfectly.. so i say hit up a junk yard or find a site that has the oem parts...o and forgot to mention the motors they give u r weak window takes forever to go up and down when they do work

i have the univ kit as well...and mine did the same (plastic pieve broke). but I have fixed it and it is better then trying to crank them

im going to try and just find a junkyard with a full door i can pull hahahha
