For the hood strut you can do what Cobalt Tom did and drill a hole thru the arm of the strut to where you can put a cotter pin in it to hold the hood. Just drill a hole thru the center and then another at the end that connects to the car so you have a place to put your pin when it's not in use. Also gotta vent the gas from the shock by tapping a small hole in the strut body.
My hood stays up without having to use anything

didn't come with the insets that attach underneath to prevent rain entry?
I'd have a prop of some kind anyways, theres always going to be some kind of wind outside of the garage.

I have the shock from the old hood, but you have to push the hood down to close it, so I'll probably never need it, no wind in the garage anyway, thats the only place it will be open
You say that now. IMO you should drill your stock hood strut and use it.
hood would'nt fit correct if I left the shock in, hoods only going to be on 4 or 5 mths a year, not to worried about it

it fits, it just raises that side of the hood up like a .025"
Right because the shock still has air in it, remove that air and it won't do that. Then just drill a couple holes in the strut arm and get yourself a cotter pin.
Don't think you understand. The actual shock is to thick in diameter. When its laying flat(when hood is closed)its about an .125" to tall, makes the hood sit to high on that side.
Strange, cobalt toms was fine after we drilled the shock.
